Police Releases Statement on #SaveMayowa Saga

The Lagos branch of the Nigerian Police Force have lent their voice to the #SaveMayowa saga that has been raging since yesterday.
It was alleged by Nollywood actress Toyin Aimakhu and some online news outlets that the campaign was a scam and that while Mayowa is indeed sick with Ovarian cancer, she has been told nothing can be done and advised to go home.
It was alleged that the family had knowledge of this but collected money anyway. The family have denied this claim stating that there are indeed plans to fly Mayowa out for treatment.
The Lagos University Teaching Hospital have spoken out stating that they are unaware of any scam but will investigate.
Now the police have stated that they will definitely look into it with the Public relations officer of the Force Dolapo Badmus releasing a statement.
It said, “The Lagos State commissioner of police Cp Fatai Owoseni has directed full scale investigation into the report that the *Save Mayowa Campaign* is a fraud.
“Founder of Lifestake foundation Ms Aramide Kasumu and two members of the ailing Mayowa Shukura Ahmed’s family, Mr Iwaloye Seun and Mrs Zaneen Ahmed were earlier today invited to the command’s headquarters on a fact finding mission, subsequently the command have placed a red alert on the access bank account opened in the name of Mayowa as it has been frozen while effort is ongoing to contact the managers of “Gofundme” online account so as to ensure funds raised through that platform is not fraudulently diverted. Investigation will be extended to LUTH hospital Idi-Araba where the patient is currently undergoing treatment.
The command wishes to inform all the good spirited people who had donated generously to this course that it will ensure it does not return as a hoax and every outcome of the investigation shall be made open.
Our heart is with Mayowa at this critical period of her life and pray she finds healing.”

Luth Release Press Statement on #SAVEMAYOWA

Miss Mayowa Ahmed is an old patient of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital who has been on treatment for another condition. This 31year-old lady came into the Private Wing of LUTH on Monday, 25th July, 2016 with a history and clinical features of an intra-abdominal mass. The family and the patient brought along some results of laboratory investigations ordered and done from outside LUTH.

Three different Specialists were invited to review Mayowa. The Gynaecologist, Oncologist and Haematologist all arrived at a tentative diagnosis of an abdominal malignancy. They planned to conduct a series of fresh tests to confirm the definitive diagnosis, since the earlier tests were neither requested nor authorised by any doctor from LUTH.

The family however requested to fly Miss Ahmed outside the country barely 24 hours after her admission in LUTH, thus stalling all the planned investigations meant to arrive at a definitive diagnosis. We were able to transfuse her with much-needed blood only after lots of persuasion where the family was told point blank that it was risky for her to travel by air, given her low blood count.

Today is the 3rd day after admission and a definitive diagnosis has not yet been made while the relations insist on their own to carry her abroad. LUTH has only dealt with Miss Ahmed and her relations throughout her stay and not with any other third party.

Contrary to any circulating information, the Lagos University Teaching Hospital did not refer Miss Ahmed overseas and this Institution is not involved with any fund-raising activity or activist on her behalf.

There was a disturbance of the peace today around the ward premises. When an altercation involving Miss Ahmed’s relatives and persons not known to the Hospital ensued, the police were invited to restore peace in the Hospital. Both parties are presently with the police and we urge the general public to patiently await the outcome of the ongoing police investigations.

We also enjoin the good-natured public, our caring press-men and all philanthropists to seek the expert opinions of specialists in Nigeria if we want to maximise the gains of their concerted efforts and selfless contribution towards alleviating the suffering of fellow Nigerians.

Turkish Govt ask FG to close down all Turkish schools in Nigeria

The Turkish government has appealed to the Federal government to close down the 17 Nigerian-Turkish International Colleges (NTIC) in Nigeria, saying they all belong to Fetullah Gulen accused of sponsoring the July 15th failed military coup in Turkey.

The Turkish High Commissioner to Nigeria, Hakan Cakil, disclosed this while hosting the vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Shehu Sani yesterday July 28th.

“We have formally and verbally made our demand to the Nigerian government through the Foreign Affairs Minister. My country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has spoken to Mr. Geoffrey Onyema on this. We are requesting for the close down of all the 17 schools. All the schools in Nigeria belong to the Gulen movement and not the Turkish government. They are using the schools to recruit followers for terrorism. This is threatening the peace in our country as they are using funds they are generating in Nigeria for terrorism. Gulen is a terrorist organization using rhetoric of dialogue, peace and partnership to deceive people. It is being presented as a kind of Muslim missionary but they are abusing the religion. They misled the public by putting Turkey in the name of their school. We don’t have schools in Nigeria, we have in other countries but not in Nigeria. Gulen movement staged a coup and they failed. Investigations prior to the coup attempt had revealed that the followers of the Gulen group infiltrated into various state structures including the police, army and judiciary.”he said Reacting to the allegations, the spokesperson of the Nigerian Turkish International Colleges, Cemal Yigit in a telephone chat with DailyTrust, denied the claims made by the ambassador and said it was a deliberate attempt by the Turkish government to smear the image of the colleges “I am not aware of the information but it is possible since that is how they do the defamation campaign. It is so unfortunate that the smear attack is even reaching Nigeria. Nigeria is a sovereign country and it is as if the Turkish Ambassador has the luxury of giving Nigerian authorities instructions on the place which employed about 2,000 Nigerians. Let me say that the NTIC, Nizamiye Hospital, Nigeria Turkish Nile University under the First Surat Group of Companies are privately invested here by private investors. These groups of companies have nothing to do with the Turkish government and they are non-governmental and non-political companies. Their responsibility is to the Nigerian authorities. The schools and hospitals are open; there is no way they could be closed. This is just misinformation disseminated by the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria.”

New Twist: Toyin Aimakhu wanted part of Mayowa Ahmed's money but family refused

There is a totally new twist to this #SaveMayowa fund controversy. New reports have emerged that Yoruba actress Toyin Aimakhu and founder of the Lifestake Foundation, Aramide Kasumu wanted part of the over N32million raised for ovarian cancer patient Mayowa Ahmed.
According to Soliat Tobi Bolaji who was with Mayowa's sister at LUTH, all through the period that it was alleged the Ahmed family had scammed Nigerians yesterday, there some hidden truth behind the whole accusation.

See her tweets below....

The conversation was in Yoruba, transcript is below:

CALLER: I heard a rumour from some unfortunate people saying that Mayowa’s case is a scam, how far, is it true? How is Mayowa feeling now, has she travelled?

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: Are you a stranger to Mayowa?

CALLER: Of course I do know her very well.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: Good, those of you who know her and her familiar with her case should tell everyone that it is a lie. They (rumour mongers and accusers) are insane.

CALLER: Okay.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: Thank God you met her, or didn’t you meet her?

CALLER: Of course. I lived with her (Mayowa).

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: And you are aware of her regular crises and all her afflictions, right?

CALLER: Of course.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: Why do we have to lie about the whole thing, do we (Ahmed family) look like impoverished people? Or are the accusers unfortunate people?

CALLER: Ah, it will not be well with them (the accusers and rumour mongers). When people have donated over N32 million naira.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: It was God that made it all possible and we did not even know that people will turn out like that. I hope you understand?

CALLER: You know the funniest part of it all? It was when I was hearing what all what Mayowa herself was saying.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: What did she say?

CALLER: As in, if you see the videos they uploaded with what she was saying.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: What did she say?

CALLER: (inaudible) I will share some of her videos with you.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: Hello, when did she say that?

CALLER: Hello, can you hear me?

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: Hello, hello, hello. When did she share, when did she take the pictures?

CALLER: Both pictures and videos.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: What did she say in them?

CALLER: She said that people should assist her that she is going through some pains and everything and that people should come to her aid and stuffs like that.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: Ehn, everybody is aware of that already. Nobody is telling lies. There is no lie in her call for help. She needed help. She needed money, where were we going to get N32 million naira? And she decided to do a video to explain her condition to people. You know the truth of the whole matter? All these foundations, all these people, in the course of that (the donations), different foundations came…

CALLER: Okay…

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: I hope you understand?

CALLER: Okay…

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: And all these foundations do not work alone. They all want money. Between you and I, people (from these foundations) will come to us and demand for various amounts of money (before they can assist us). You get?

CALLER: Yes.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: They wanted their own part of the money.

CALLER: Okay…

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: That is the simple truth. That is why you are hearing crazy rumours like that. Even Toyin Aimakhu herself is a thief.

CALLER: Ah, oh, she (Toyin Aimakhu) is an unfortunate person. So she did not release the money?

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: No, there is money in the account. You understand? You know of the processing and all, you also know that some people do not get help for more than five, six months. You get? So Mayowa was followed by the grace of God for her to be able to raise such an amount of money in less than three days. So we started processing. She will initially go to Dubai (United Arab Emirates). As a matter of fact, our biggest cousin is in the embassy, working on the processing. Assuming we know the outcome was going to be like this, we could have even hastened the processing but where is the money? You can imagine running CT scans for more than five times. You know how much CT scan costs? I did it. I left Lagos to do it in Ilorin because it was cheaper there where I did it for N100,000. In Lagos here, if you do not have N350,000, you cannot do it.

CALLER: I understand, I understand.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: That is not to talk of the series of tests which are even small.

CALLER: You know what happened? They should not release the money if it is in Mayowa’s account.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: The money is inside Mayowa’s account. Nobody is releasing it and there is no problem. Those of you who are family and friends should let everyone know the accusation is false. We do not have anything to hide. We are doing the processing and it is not that easy.

CALLER: Thank you very much my brother, it will also go live on Abiyamo’s page. I will send it to them.

Mayowa Ahmed’s brother: Thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks

N4.7bn fraud: I transported poll funds for Obanikoro, says ex-aide

Posted on July 28, 2016 by lucky

An officer of the Nigerian Navy, Lt.-Cdr Olumide Adewale, has told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that he helped his former boss, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, to transport money, which was flown to Akure and later handed over to Abiodun Agbele on the instructions of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State.

Adewale, who was the Aide-de-Camp to Obanikoro when the latter was the Minister of State for Defence, said this on Wednesday when he was grilled by detectives of the EFCC.

According to the anti-graft agency, the money was part of the N4.7bn that was paid into Obanikoro’s sons’ company account, Sylvan McNamara, on the instructions of the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).

Adewale, who was in charge of Obanikoro’s security for about a year, told the EFCC that everything he did was under the strict instructions of his boss.

He told investigators that on June 16, 2014, barely a week to the Ekiti State governorship election, he, alongside Obanikoro, departed the ex-minister’s Park View home in Ikoyi, Lagos, and headed for the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

The naval officer told detectives that on getting to the airport, he met Obanikoro’s son, Gbolahan. He said Gbolahan and the former minister had a brief meeting after which a bullion van arrived at the private wing of the airport.

Adewale told the EFCC operatives that Gbolahan then directed some men at the airport to offload the money from the bullion van and load it unto the aircraft.

The entire activity was said to have been captured on CCTV.

A detective of the anti-graft agency quoted Adewale as saying, “The flight was delayed for about an hour. Later, a bullion van pulled into the hangar where the chartered flight was. Shortly after, Gbolahan ensured that some bags were offloaded unto the plane. I later boarded the flight with Obanikoro and his friend, Dr. Tunde Oshinowo (a PDP chieftain and a mutual friend of Obanikoro and Fayose).”

The EFCC detectives told one of our correspondents that on getting to the Akure airport, Obanikoro was welcomed by Mr. Abiodun Agbele, Fayose’s ally, who had since been arrested by the commission.

Adewale confirmed that Obanikoro was welcomed at the airport by a politician.

He told investigators that he did not know the name of the person but could recognise the person.

The naval man was further quoted as saying, “On arrival at Akure, the minister had a discussion with political friends. A bullion van was driven to the tarmac. The bags were offloaded unto the bullion van and the minister directed that we escort the van to a Zenith Bank branch in Akure.

“On arrival, the bags were offloaded by bank workers under the supervision of a civilian who had come to meet the minister at the Akure airport. I don’t know the man facially but I can recognise him.”

Meanwhile, Fayose has said the EFCC is on a wild goose chase in Ekiti State.

The governor stated that the anti-corruption commission had shifted attention to the finances of Ekiti State after what he claimed to be the failure of the commission to link him with the diversion of arms funds at the NSA’s office under Dasuki.

Fayose, who spoke on Orange FM station in Akure, Ondo State, on Thursday, said the EFCC had started harassing banks in Ekiti State, seeking for records of government finances, on allegations that the contractors gave him (governor) kickbacks.

“They are on vendetta mission. They said I collected money from Dasuki and I have told them that I did not collect a dime from Dasuki. I have N300m in my fixed deposit account in Zenith Bank and I declared it in my Asset Declaration Form.

“I have challenged them to publish the statement made to the EFCC by Dasuki where he said he gave Senator Musiliu Obanikoro money to give me or where Obanikoro himself said he gave me money.’’

Fayose called for proper restructuring of the country in line with the report of the 2014 National Conference.

“Nigeria has not been properly s

Sokoto uncovers 13,000 ghost workers in LGAs

Posted on July 28, 2016 by lucky

The Sokoto State Government said it had discovered no fewer than 12,915 ghost workers whose names were added to the payroll of the 23 local government areas of the state.

The state Commissioner for Local Governments and Community Development, Alhaji Mannir Dan-Iya disclosed this at a media briefing in Sokoto.

“The ministry, through the Department of Monitoring and other stakeholders, has concluded local government junior staff verification of about 58,143 workers, comprising scheduled and unscheduled staff.

“The verification exercise has yielded a fruitful result, whereby about 12, 915 members of staff, comprising seat-at-home and ghost workers, were fished out of the local governments’ staff payrolls.

“The state government has also saved over N319m from the exercise; hence, it was a huge success,’’ Dan-Iya stated.

He further stated that the ministry was planning to conduct a similar verification exercise of senior employees whose salaries were paid by the ministry through their respective bank accounts.

The commissioner also vowed that the ministry and the local governments service commission were collaborating to sanitise the payrolls of the local governments.

“Any official of the local governments or the ministry found to be wanting in this direction would be duly sanctioned. The ministry and the commission have beamed their searchlights on the various departments of the 23 local governments as well as the ministry, and anyone indicted would be sanctioned,” he added.

The commissioner also said that issues that arose from the exercise, mostly associated with ‘‘human error’, were being addressed in collaboration with the stakeholders.

Dan-Iya further explained that the ministry had successfully boosted the internally generated revenues of the local governments by engaging consultants.

We’ll talk with militants, say Ijaw leaders

Posted on July 28, 2016 by lucky

Some leaders of the Ijaw community in Lagos State say they are taking steps to halt the criminal activities linked to militants from the Niger Delta region.

Some communities in Lagos and Ogun states are being attacked by gunmen suspected to be Ijaws staying in the creeks.

Speaking for the Ijaws in Lagos on Thursday, a former president of the Izon Community, Lagos State, Regent Youmor, in a statement, said the Ijaw leaders were set to douse the tension.

He said, “We are worried about the spate of criminal activities and the colouration given to it in the reports. The Izon community in Lagos is not taking the reports and the feedback we get lightly.

“We are ready to collaborate with our Yoruba brothers and leaders, as well as security agencies, to ensure that criminals masquerading as militants are fished out and dealt with according to the laws of the land.

“We frown at it when a particular ethnic group appears targeted for negative and biased reports. We are a peaceful and peace-loving people, who abhor all forms of criminality, whether in Lagos or anywhere else.”

Youmor, who is also vice-chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee in the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, said a friendly football match would be played between the Ijaw and their Yoruba hosts on Saturday, August 6, in the state.

“Football, like any other sport, is a unifying force. We want to use the friendly game to foster better relationship with the Yoruba, who have been very accommodating and hospitable. Our leaders in Lagos are in support of this initiative,” he added.

Chocolate City Signs New Kenyan Artiste

Posted on July 28, 2016 by lucky

Chocolate City Record label has signed a new Kenyan artiste Eric Onyango Omollo with the stage name Qritigal.

On the new deal, the company released a statement, and it reads,

“After losing both parents within a space of two months upon entering his teenage years, Eric Onyango Omollo better known as Qritiqal, turned to music as a cathartic expression of deep seated feelings no one should endure at such a young age.

Born in 1989 and raised in Mombasa Kenya, he ventured into music through school festivals. He hung out with local artistes who mentored him through his personal struggles, including the loss of one of his siblings, as he passionately pursued music as both therapeutic and a career path. After a chance meeting with Gyptian at a local show, he was inspired to record original material and debuted in 2010 as a sensational dance hall artiste with the single
“Weak Inside” – a nation-wide hit.

The single won him the Best Video of the Year 2010 at the Nzumari Awards and the Best Video of The Year Coast Music Awards. In 2012, he dropped another hit single “Kupe” where he was featured by Ogopa Deejayz Artist and Guru Col. Mustafa. Having also shared a stage with the likes of Jaguar and Sauti Sol, he decided it was time for him to pause and develop his own unique sound, later on meeting and collaborating with local producer, Motif_On_The_Beat (Morris Kobia). Their collaboration produced successful Dj Dubplates for local Djs, at a time when he also doubled as a jingle maker for some advertisement agencies.

His consistency and passion for music developed Qritiqal’s signature sound; a go between dancehall, soul and R&B, where his high tenor range, in contrast with his laid back delivery gives him a unique tone and flow. This had him hand picked for the theme song of Kenya’s legendary DJ Joe Mfalme. Still, success and the right attention seemed to elude him as he kept doing pro-bono gigs while trying his best to cater for his younger brother and only surviving family member. He eventually settled in Nairobi – the music capital of Kenya, where he was discovered by Chocolate City Music Kenya, the sister company to Chocolate City Music Nigeria; home to internationally known acts like Ice Prince Zamani, Koker and MI Abaga.

Get ready Africa, it’s about to get Qritiqal.”

Posted on July 28, 2016 by lucky
Embattled legendary musician Koffi Olomide has had arguably one of the most difficult weeks of his life.
